Riley’s dark eyes burned into hers with such a force, it took her breath away. “Good. I want to make it clear to everyone that you’re a one-man woman and I’m a one-woman man. And the one woman I want is you.”

Why had she ever doubted him?

“The man I was is not the man I am. I don’t care if we live in Oakston or Willow Valley or both. Cece told me everything.” Her breathing returned sped up by her wild heart.

He knows and he came back for you!

“You will not hold me back, just like I won’t hold you back or try to tame you.” Her lips curved upwards with her growing heart. “As long as I go to bed and wake up beside you, I’m happy. I love you Abigail McAdams.”

Were those tears forming in her eyes? Get serious!

  “I love you too.”

He kissed her again, keeping his tongue to himself. “I’m not going to ask you to marry me for fear of you running away.”

  “Marriage?”

“With you anything is possible. I will skinny dip in every lake with you.”

She laughed then, the first true laugh in weeks. “I will hold you to that.”

“I will move back here if that’s what you want...”

“I want you to be happy Riley.”

He squeezed the back of her neck. “Then promise not to ever run away from me again.”

Abby was never running again. Ever. Riley Boyd had her in his grips and she never wanted him to let go.

  “I promise.”

  “Promise?”

She kissed him and promised one last time against his mouth, then he jumped over the counter and picked her up swirling her in a circle like the ending of a bad eighties teenage movie and she loved every second of it.

On their way out of the bakery, holding hands with the man she would never run away from again, she whispered, “I’m just going to get a rise...” She kissed his cheek before leading him over to the very observant table of old ladies. She stopped in front of them, aware her family was only two tables over and watching like a hawk.

“Good afternoon ladies,” Abby said. She leaned over the table and whispered, but loud enough for eavesdroppers to hear, “Riley baked a little bun in this oven...” At their surprised faces Abby stood, acknowledging Riley’s chuckle and her sister’s gasps and walked away.

“Talk about rushing me...” Riley teased.

  Chapter Thirty-Seven

After the play at De’laine theater, the Braxton's and McAdams and all their other halves had dinner in the adjoining five star restaurant...also owned by the Braxton’s. Needless to say, it was loud. There was no other good description of the gathering between these two families uniting.

Riley sat back during most of dinner and simply watched the interaction. There wasn't a lot of cause for him to get overly involved unless addressed with all the curiosity flowing between the two families. Besides, Abby’s hand landed on his lap more than one time in a very sexual manner and he had to put all his strength into not allowing it to show when he stood up in his suit pants.

Riley observed a deep love between Vivette and Rupert that was a lot like his parents love had been. They were reserved, but kind with entertaining humor that the McAdams appreciated. This was a close knit family. The men of this family were built big and strong with thick laughter that overtook the room. Gemma and Abby hit it off right away with their similar personalities.

“Will you excuse us?” Abby said, after the party moved from the restaurant back into the now empty theater, to the lounge room and another round of drinks were served.

No one even noticed as they slipped into the empty, quiet foyer. When the door shut, Abby wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.

His hands immediately reacted, sliding down the open back of another black dress to grab her derrière and pull her up and against him.

Her laughter tumbled against his chest before she pulled away. “Come on,” she whispered like it was a secret adding a mysterious wink and walking away, her hand laced in his, pulling him behind her.

“You are such a tease,” he said.

He loved it. He loved her. The last two weeks with her and no secrets between them had been the best days of his life.

Abby pushed through a door that read, “Employees only.”

Riley paused in the doorway and Abby turned with a grin. “I'm family,” she said and tugged his arm.

He couldn't argue with that. Her aunt and cousins did in fact own De’laine Theater, but did that make it right the first gathering to be sneaking around the building?

The long hallway was covered in deep burgundy and gold like the rest of the Victorian set theater.

Abby knew exactly where she was going and Riley wondered how. She turned at the stage door on the left and opened it too, guiding them backstage.

“Abby, I'm not sure about this...we should get back...”

He would much rather go back to his...their...place and strip her naked, but he wouldn't suggest taking her away from her whole family who were staying the night in Oakston and half of them were coming back to their place.

Abby didn't listen or let go of his hand and guided him onto the stage. They were encircled by the last set. A kitchen set up in the early eighteen hundreds from the love story they had watched.

Abby turned to face him, grabbing his other hand and pulling him to center stage. She twirled in the center with her arms wide-open then stopped and stared at him. There was something in her eyes that told him she had plans behind their visit to the stage.

“You're not going to ask me to marry you? Are you?” he asked, with a crooked smile.

The idea didn't sound as crazy in his head as it once had. In fact, he was growing fond of the idea of having a ceremony that united him with Abby forever. He never thought those words would ever pass through his head and with such ease. It should scare him, but he wasn’t scared at all.

Her grin widened. “If you want to marry me, you have to make the grand gesture, baby. And grand I shall expect.” She shrugged. “I just want to have sex in a kitchen.”

Before he could reply, she closed the distance between them and her warm, ready lips plastered themselves hard against his mouth, tapping their teeth together. Her fingers grabbed a handful of his hair, which she used to pull her body up against his.

  They shouldn't be doing this.

Sex in a theater? Sex in a theater! Not only any theater either, this theater belonged to a family she was just introduced to...there were so many reasons to pull her off. But his mind shut down the second her free hand grabbed the front of his pants.

A startled sound escaped his mouth and she swallowed it up with laughter.

Riley grabbed her legs and hoisted her up, her legs immediately wrapped around his middle, and squeezed.

“That's more like it,” she said between kisses.

She was such a bad influence.

“Table or counter?” he asked and even as the words came out and were so wrong they felt so right...

  “You pick...”

The closest damn thing to them...counter it was.

Her ass landed on the counter and her feminine chuckle of enjoyment urged him on. Her fingers unbuttoned the front of his bottom up and he moved the dress up her legs, then to her waist, feeling every inch of skin underneath his fingers. When he wanted more, he pulled it up and over her head and her lace black bra welcomed his lips. His tongue trailed the mounds and she arched back hitting her body off the cupboard and thrusting her hips against him.

They were both wearing too many clothes.

Riley found her lips again and her hands found the buckle on his pants.

When she paused, Riley pulled his face away, but only inches, with their noses still touching.

  “What is it?”

Abby smiled at him, her real smile, the one that she rolled over with every morning just for him. “I love you,” she said softly, completely shifting his hunger to love.

  Riley moved his hand
s to the sides of her face. He loved holding her head in his hands. “I love you too.”

She smirked. “Then drop your drawers and show me.”

He laughed and as he was reaching for his pants lights flickered on above them. Both their heads flew to the ceiling lights. Riley heard talking behind the curtain

“Add this to the list...” Abby began, but Riley pulled her down not letting her finish. He grabbed her dress at the same time.

“That way.” He pointed to the opposite side of the stage and, as she ran in front, he slapped her derrière to speed her half naked body along quicker.

Once they were behind the curtain Riley opened the first door, a closet, and they slipped inside.

“Get dressed.” He fumbled for her hands and when he found them he gave her the dress. While his fingers moved to start buttoning up his shirt that's when he felt her fingers stop him.

“This would definitely be a first for me.” Her whisper was right beside his ear. How she managed to find in the dark he would never know.

It would be a first for him too.

He gave up on his buttons and decided since they were half undressed anyway...what the hell.

There were going to be a lot of firsts with this woman including a well-planned proposal when the day came...and he wasn’t waiting around forever.
